This morning I am aware of the Spring season - the penetrating chill of winter nights has relaxed into a balmy early evening, with the sun remaining above the horizon far longer than just a few weeks ago, and rising above the Eastern horizon earlier so that getting ready for the day's work isn't done in darkness. I appreciate once again why the ancients worshipped the Sun as it 'returned' to warm their bodies and the air and the soil, making it possible once again to look forward to planting and growing food and flowers. In the perceived 'maleness' of the Sun was that ability to penetrate from a distance and bring or awaken life; little wonder that we have sustained a sense of God-the-Father as being 'out there' at some immeasurable distance beyond our seeing. This is often the case, as well, in our nuclear families, when the Father leaves the womb of the family and the home to enter the World to do Work, at some distance from our sight and therefore always mysterious and separated from our experience.
So different this is from our childhood experience of the Mother, who remains with us, still near and nurturing, attending to our needs and in far closer contact and communication. We feel 'known' by the Mother, and less known to the Father, and we know Him less well, as he brings home his contact with the World which must be managed in the home or dissipated, a task to which we readily set ourselves upon his return to us as young children. If we are allowed to be somewhat effective in bringing the Father back into relationship with us after his day apart, then we come to feel a kinship with the Father, that He is accessible to us, too. But often this is not the case, and Father remains distant and apart from us emotionally, thus making it difficult as well to feel a connection to the Divine Father-Spirit or 'God' who is just out of our reach.
Thus is the Mother more available to us, both in our homes (unless, sadly, she is not) and in our daily experience of the Earth. The Sun is 'out there' and we appreciate His effects, as we benefit indirectly from the Father's paychecks, but it is the Mother with whom we feel contact and relationship due to Her proximity and tactile contact.
So, particularly at this time of new growth and fresh awakenings, I urge you to get 'in touch with' the Mother Earth as She re-births Nature, Her countless offspring/children, into existence once again, anew. Watch with wonder as the crocus and daffodil bulbs, which have rested in the earth all winter, send shoots of green even through snow in their urgency to express their true nature. Stop and fill your mind's eye as trees 'green up' with leaf buds covering each of their branches, and the sad grey bouquets of 'dead' winter sticks become an orchestra of agile life bursting forth.
Recall the scene in the film "Pretty Woman" when Julia's character chides the businessman to take off his shoes and be in touch with the grass, and to feel the earth on the soles of his feet, and how - later, when he does this - a transformation takes place, making him more human and available for relationship rather than exercising control over people as things.
In the weeks ahead, you will many have wonderful opportunities to come into closer contact with the Mother-Spirit through her many children in Nature, as they emerge from their home beneath the earth's surfaces and shine themselves forth into the bright sunshine as green and alive, and exuberantly so. I hope you will 'play' too, and let your own body's cells tap into the deep rhythms of Spring as Life stirs and emerges. This is a wonderful time of the solar year, please don't 'miss it' for working your same old routine and being too busy to 'stop and smell the roses' (which won't be out until summer, but you get my drift...).
Enjoy your participation in the Grand Resurrection that Springtime is - let it uplift you and stir your inner Spirit into great Joy!

As Jupiter moves into Saturn, a time for change, activity and bold adventures, this web-log is inaugurated. Thanks for stopping in, chat a while, and return whenever you can. We will be discussing life, spirit, inspiration, meditation, insights, transcendence, and the return of the Divine Feminine in the world's consciousness. Note Her presence here when-ever and how-ever you perceive it - let the world know that the Goddess/Divine Feminine principle is alive and well and never left us, just gone silent (mostly) and less apparent (to most).
I'm Donna, Dhyanadevi to my Hindu friends - a professional counselor and susbstance abuse services provider, and developer of a rural Retreat Center. We are creating a Monastery for all non-affiliated hermits, retreatants, lay monk & nuns, and those who just need to get away from the noise and myriad distractions of the time-frantic, techno-crazed world. Perhaps you will take a retreat with us someday... for now, we'll meet here.
Please share your perspective on the re-emergence of the Feminine in the world, or Her (wo)manifestations in your own spirituality.
